Holi, the festival of colours had a different meaning in the hostel during my BDS days. I remember when we were juniors in the hostel and practically had no voice over the seniors....we were all pulled out of our rooms on this day and none of them played with the actual colours . lol!!! POP( Plaster of Paris) was smuggled out of the plaster room from the lab and each one of us were dumped with it followed by with what ever else was available.POP is one of the dental materials used in dentistry...(don't worry...its not a filling material lol) which sets when water is added . As freshers we were still to study the properties of POP. So after we all played holi we were sent for bath and as we stood under the shower, the POP would fizzle and bubble and slowly set on our hair. Eeeks!!!next we know our hair would stand out like broom sticks. We would fumble and grumble at our seniors ( behind their backs of course) . Finally when we could get the mess out of our hair we'll all laugh at whose hair would stand out the most and I suppose it needs no guessing as to whose conditions was the worst. I was one those dumbos who would take everything with a smile so I was always at the receiving end.....always getting a generous helping everytime. lol!!!
That was the only time i played holi...colours or no colours. After that when we finished and joined work we never got any holidays so like today i was on duty with a whole line of patients waiting in line. As i was looking into a patient i could hear the people out in the streets having a splash. Nice to recall those good old days. Only now i wonder if our Lab assistant ever thought where did the drums of POP vanish over night. Our Old Man( princi) would have got a heart attack if he only knew. Lol!!!
Wishing one and all a very happy holi with a colourful year ahead.
