Local Seasonal Fruits.....

Come summer months and we get a variety of local seasonal fruits......the one in the picture here are the ones we get in the market now.......the green ones are sour in taste and are called "SOH PHE" locally.....the red ones are of the same family as the green ones .....only it is smaller , sweeter and red in colour...this is called "SOH PHE-NAM" (NAM comes from the word snam meaning blood which is red in colour) and those black ones are local black mulberry ......and are called "SOH LANGDKHUR". ( SOH means fruit in the local language here.). The green soh phes are used to make pickle and also a type of fruit salad...where the fruit is smashed or cut into very small pieces......and then mixed with salt, chillie and sometimes sugar for those who likes the sweet tangy taste. The soh phe-nam is just great to have it like that with a little salt if you wish and the soh langdkhur or easier said the mulberries are sweet and real tasty.......it is also used to make jams. These seasonal fruits are all full of natural goodness.......and should be eaten as fresh as possible to enjoy its real taste. The small plastic boxes that can also be seen in the picture are strawberries as found every where else.....but they are locally grown.
