Today we have a beautiful day but the last few days we had heavy showers and when I woke up in the morning, as I stood in the balcony I saw the whole area flooded....it was quite a surprising sight. One will not imagine to see even water lodging in Shillong and least of all floods like this....but then this is not what Mother nature had in Her mind for us....it is purely man-made. We have tampered with nature....so this is what we got.....I believe some houses went right under water in these areas....people have by pass all laws and regulations in order to make some quick money and get a little more extra land.....when we were younger I remember there was a river running along this area.....that is how my area gets the name I believe, "Laitumkhrah"...Umkhrah was the river..... now all we can see is a small stream....people have filled up mud in most areas to get a little more land and build their house not realizing what they were doing.....resulting in the river overflowing as there has been a change in its course !!!!Well we asked for it . That is all I can say .
