The "HAAT BAZAAR"......

I had once again gone for my Polio duty and after our Booth activity , I suddenly decided to visit the "Haat Bazaar" as it was a local market day. This is a typical market you see in and around the border areas. The first picture is a bakery shop where you get good bakery biscuits. Nothing fancy but warm , fresh and crispy biscuits which tastes as good as home made ones. lovely to have with a hot cup of tea.One of the pictures shows a local girl......who came to do her weekly shopping.......for them shopping means food for everyday till the next market day.....and small goodies for the little ones back home.........some of these village bellies come and go back on foot.....hard life folks.... no window shopping for them.......no strolling in the airconditoned malls......

I loved this post. It took me back two years ago, when i went to the tribal areas of Chattisgarh for a documentary shoot. We had shot extensively in a Haat bazaar and that was the day when the meaning of shopping changed for me. You must have often noticed my ire against the mall culture, it all stems from the magical day I spent at the Haat in January of 2006.

I had clicked several photos then, but unfortunately the roll got exposed and I lost all the photographs of the documentary shoot -the adventure of my life- never to be able to relive those fond memories.

Thanks a ton for this post, you took me back to a time when I was extremely happy. :-D
