These are rice cakes....though they must be having different names in different areas.......the ones made in Shillong are called "PUMALOI" in the local language. Basically made of rice powder which is steamed. Something like the south Indian idlis.....only this is purely rice based. Recently my friend bought some for me and i found these a little different......may be with changing times , even the recipes are modified.Well this was made of powdered rice but had a stuffing of raw grated coconut inside it. It tasted wonderful......and without a doubt very healthy since not a drop of oil is used. The whole cake is steamed. My favorite form of snack. A must try folks when you visit this part of the country....only not every place has it. So do give me prior notice please. :)

yummy.....i love this cake...here it is called..TEKELI PITHA...means teapot pitha as it is steamed over a teapot using the cap as a container..complicated
my mum usually makes idlis along with coconut chutney when she doesn't feel like making something else...it tastes horrible!
it does look so much like idli. clones actually!
Just reminds me of Idli .... Yum Yum !!!
Sounds good, I like coconut in different dishes. Have a great week-end.
the day of arrival breakfast is decided... now only the date of arrival needs to be decided. :-)
Hopefully I'll be there before this year comes to an end.
Coconut stuffing. That seems to be a good innovation.
It sounds wonderful. Do you have a recipe for it? I looked online and can't find one.
thanks
@priyanka
looking forward to your visit.
@grace
basically it is the rice that is of a special variety....i don't know what rice it is called otherwise, it is of the sticky variety...just grind that and make round shapes with the coconut stuffings in it and steam over .
Wow that sounds interesting do you have the recipe for this i would love to give it a try :)
