A Visit to NEPA............!!!!!!!!!

The phone rings and as I take the call, am told IDA, Megh.branch is having an awareness camp on 18Th of Oct. in NEPA.....that is North Eastern Police Academy, a 45 mins drive from the city . Oh! No! there goes my precious Sunday and to top it all , I am asked to give a lecture to the cadets. All sorts of excuses fall on deaf ear and I had no choice , post Diwali , on a Sunday morning to crawl out of bed and get ready for our NEPA visit.......to talk about dentistry....somebody help me out of this please!!!!!.......I screamed at the back of my mind. Well , no body came . So while every body in the house was having a late Sunday, I got all ready to leave and while I was waiting for my friend to come pick me up ( I simply put my foot down ......no way I was driving ......so they had to come and fetch Her Majesty!!! Lol! )........I thought about what I was going to talk, but before I could organise , the door bell rang and I had to leave.
Once on our way, we all felt better about giving up a Sunday and I repeatedly assured myself, its for a good cause.
The Academy was a beautiful place.......huge campus , typically uniform set up. The auditorium was packed with about 400 plus cadets and my legs almost gave way as I climbed on stage......for all the time I talked in the past in such awareness camps, its only been to children, where subconsciously I become one of them too. I looked towards the audience and thought " Am I suppose to talk to this crowd of 400 plus adults all in uniform with crew cut hair looking straight at me and teach them how to brush their teeth correctly???? " Well too late for me to turn my heels......I stood there , saw just one face in my thoughts and I started with.......
" Good Morning , ladies and gentleman !!!! Dentistry on a Sunday morning.........
It was a good session. We were gifted these mugs as a token of appreciation. So All is well that ends well.!!!

I'm sure it went fine and you feel appreciated for your efforts in furthering dental hygiene in the world...even if it was Sunday. Good for you!

I would have been very, very nervous to have spoken in front of such a large group! I am sure your talk was much appreciated and what a nice thing to do by giving up your Sunday!

I bet you were glad you went. But I know the feeling, those last minute ideas of someone else, ruining our plans. But it sounds like it went well. Yes, I'm sure a lot of adults DO NOT brush their teeth correctly.

You've had things like that happen before, where you didn't really want to do something on your day off, and then it turned out well. It sounds like you have the gifts of speaking and teaching as well as caring and nurturing through your dentistry.
