National Rural Health Mission........!!!!!!

I was asked by my HOD today to go and do a health programme with the NRHM group. So I had gone to this school called the "Little Flower" where I had to educate them on the different oral health problems and also demonstrate the brushing technique. All this am suppose to deliver in the local language. My students today belong to the age group of 5-7 yrs. I had a tough job ahead. It was a huge group of 450 odd students.....and due to the power failure I could not use the microphone. So well on top of my voice......as loudly as I could..... I tried to communicate to these tiny tots.......going around the hall showing them how to brush their teeth the correct way.....and by the end of one and a half hour of non-stop talking.....I was exhausted. The end product....a sore throat.....and a realization how tough it is to be a primary teacher. Hats off to all the wonderful teachers who taught me in my formative years.

wow, 450 tots-it's a wonder you survived. i taught 1st grade for several years and later became a school librarian. How great you are teaching dental health to the little ones.

How wonderful that you went out and explained to the children the proper way to brush. I can only imagine you would be hoarse after all that!

you are right nitu. teaching the little ones is a handful. long time when i was still waiting for a job, i had tried my hand in teaching. i was assigned the nursery and kinder garden section. by the end of 6mths i realized this was not a job for me.i quit and am now in the corporate world. So your work is appreciated . keep it up!!!

I am sure the children must have enjoyed with you and at the same time learned a lot from you. 450 children without a microphone!!! You are a superwoman...

Great, Nitu! So nice of you to share your time with children. I think it is a wonderful initiative.

I taught children from standards 2 to 5 for one year, and it was a most amazing experience, very tiring, and I suffered from constant sore throat :).

well done teacher, btw those teachers who taught you during your formative years (i like this when you use 'formative years')were not as challenged as the teachers of today since the kids these days are v much less disciplined. And for you to do it during a 1.5 hrs stretch was quite a feat i guess. I bet there were lots of giggling too along the way. BTW do you do any follow ups after this kind of session just to check on the effectiveness of such a briefing. But then again even if it's not, the dentists are going to get lots of headache (& money) in later years, just joking.

@bluesman
yes we do follow up by calling the children for what ever treatment is suppose to be done to the hospital and yes earning your bread and butter through someone's pain is something that i often think about!!!!!
